WelcomHeritage Royal Camp - Nagaur, Rajasthan, India |
Nagaur Hotels and Resorts Index
The city of Nagaur, located between Jodhpur and Bikaner, dates back to the 4th century and once was at the centre of Muslim invasions from Central Asia. The Nagaur Fort complex encompasses an interesting variety of palaces, mosques, temples, intricate baoris (reservoirs), water systems, fountains, open terraces and pleasure gardens. The Welcomheritage Royal Camp, within the Nagaur Fort, borrows from and expands on the concept of royal safari and 'shikar' hunting camps of a bygone age. The luxury tents, each with verandah, bedroom and bathroom, are custom made, using the finest of Marwar traditional skills and weaving in the best of modern comforts. With dusk comes the campfire, around which various performances indigenous to the Thar desert take place - be it music and dance or magic or puppet shows, juggling, flame throwing.
Similar camps are set up during the Pushkar Camel & Cattle Fair as well as the Jaisalmer Desert Fair. The camp at Nagaur is more permanent and is set up from October to March every year. Nagaur too, like Pushkar, has a week-long cattle fair that takes place in late January or early February where thousands of people congregate and various festivities take place alongside the traditional cattle-trading.
ACCOMMODATION: The Welcomheritage camp is pitched within the fortifications of the Fort, allowing first-hand access and participation in the history, tradition and culture of this land. The Shikar style camp is an ideal stopover for those who wish to visit the fort, the city and the sand dunes which are only 55 km away. Custom-made camps can also be especially arranged for exclusive groups in other locations of choice subject to a minimum of two nights stay and 15 tents. The 20 luxury tents, each with verandah and attached bath and water closet, are custom made, using the finest of Marwar traditional skills and weaving in the best of modern comforts.
DINING: A multi-cuisine restaurant serving Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine has been set up within the magnificent arches of the pillared "baradari" of the Nagaur Fort. Special open-air Rajasthani theme dinners are also organised. FACILITY & SERVICES:
